Social learning therapy
Basic Principles of Social Learning Therapy
Social cognitive theory Emphasizes how individuals learn by observing and modeling others (Bandura, 2006)
Modeling
- Learning and subsequent behavior change could occur vicariously through observation of other people's behavior
- Can elicit both positive and negative behaviors
Reciprocal Determinism
- Our behavior influences our environment
- Cognitions, behaviors, and environments become intertwined in creating the human experience
Self-Efficacy
- Impacts how a person thinks, feels, motivates him/herself, and behaves
- Person can perform a certain task based on their beliefs about how well it will be completed; shaping future attempts (Bandura, 1977)
