- An I-though relationship is the most meaningful, client and therapist share a journey together
- Encourage people to confront their fears, and promote their efforts to making meaningful choices
- Existential therapist are companions and explorers with their clients
- Learning to be empathetic with clients in existential therapy allows the therapist to fully understand their client
- Not time limited or rushed; no clear stages or transitions
- Beginning: develop clinicians understanding of their client and clients' awareness of themselves
- Middle: enables people to use the information they have shared to find purpose, meaning, and value
- Later, people can implement their awareness of themselves and move forward to establish more meaningful lives
